Frisco RoughRiders News Release
TULSA, OKLAHOMA (June 5, 2015) - Andrew Faulkner threw seven shutout innings and Nomar Mazara and Drew Robinson added home runs as the Frisco RoughRiders defeated the Tulsa Drillers, 3-0, on Friday night. The Riders improved to 3-1 against the Drillers in 2015.
Frisco jumped on Drillers starter Jose De Leon (0-2) in the first inning with a two-out rally. Nick Williams singled to left field and Mazara crushed a two-run shot to deep right. Williams notched three hits, giving him 15 multi-hit games this season. He entered the game on a 2-for-26 skid. The home run is Mazara's second of the road trip after going deep on Tuesday against Springfield.
Andrew Faulkner (4-3) won his second consecutive start, both coming against Tulsa. The southpaw completed seven innings for the second time this season, and held the opponent to zero runs for the first time since April 16 against Arkansas. His seven strikeouts matches a season high.
Drew Robinson added an insurance run in the seventh inning with his 10th home run, tied for most in the Texas League. The solo shot extends Robinson's RBI streak to three straight games. Leading 3-0, two infield singles put runners on the corners in the top of the eighth, and a balk called on Juan Gonzalez allowed Jake Skole to score.
Tulsa (20-31) managed a run in the bottom of the eighth against Will Lamb. Jarek Cunningham led off with a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1. Josh McElwee pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his fourth save of the season.
The Riders (23-31) turn to Jake Thompson (5-3) on Saturday against left-hander Eric Stults. Thompson has won three straight starts, including an eight inning gem against the Drillers last Sunday. The RoughRiders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark on June 9 for a four-game homestand against San Antonio. The team will host a "Full House Night" with special uniforms depicting scenes from the classic '90s sitcom on Friday, June 12.
