Miners Lose to ThunderBolts 4-1

Crestwood, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners lose to the Windy City ThunderBolts 4-1 as ThunderBolts starter Donovan Drake pitched six innings of four hit ball, giving up one run, walking two and striking out seven batters to earn his first victory of the season. Miners starter Brian Fowler earned his first loss (3-1) of the season. He pitched six innings of four hit ball, gave up four hits and allowed three runs. He walked two and struck out five batters.

Windy City jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run by first baseman Andy Chriscaden and a two RBI double by third baseman Travis Weaver. The Miners scored only one run in the top of the sixth inning when Matt Fields hit a RBI double to bring in Jake Kaase.

ThunderBolts center fielder Jareck West hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning off Darrin Tew to take the lead 4-1. Darrin Tew allowed one run in the seventh off two hits. He walked one batter and gave up two hits. Ben Shivers threw a perfect eighth inning. With the loss, the Miners fell to 16-10 on the season.

The Miners and ThunderBolts play the rubber match tomorrow at Standard Bank Stadium at 6:05 pm. The Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show will get underway at 5:45 on the Miners Radio Network with Mike Ventola.
