Minard's OT Goal Leads Falcons To Win
January 23, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release
Chris Minard's goal just 1:42 into overtime capped off the perfect return for the Falcons forward as he helped lead Springfield to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack in front of 5,930 at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. Minard, who was out of the lineup since October 30 before his return on Friday, officially marked his return on Saturday with the game-winning goal.
The Falcons continued to outshoot the Wolf Pack all evening long, but didn't have anything to show for it in the goal column. Trailing 1-0 into the third period, the Falcons had an opportunity to even the score on a five-on-three power play, but failed to convert. Earlier in the final period, Hartford's Andres Ambuhl was awarded a penalty shot when he was tripped on a scoring chance, but Falcons goaltender J.P. Levasseur made the save swinging momentum back in Springfield's favor.
The Falcons finally received the fortunate bounce they where looking for when Charles Linglet took advantage of a bad bounce off the back boards and slid a shot into a vacated Hartford net after Wolf pack goaltender Chad Johnson was trapped behind the goal.
The Wolf Pack opened the scoring in the first period when Dane Byers redirected a Corey Locke pass at 9:57 of the opening frame giving Hartford a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.
The two teams played a very spirited contest throughout the night with the rivals combining for 66 penalty minutes. Jake Taylor and Justin Soryal had the game's first altercation, followed by Geoff Paukovich getting into a pair of scraps, the first with Brodie Dupont, followed by Jared Nightingale.
