Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -The last meeting between the B-Sens and Bridgeport Sound Tigers resulted in a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss for the Senators in Bridgeport at the hands of ex-B-Sen Greg Mauldin. Seeking redemption, the B-Sens found it as they defeated the Sound Tigers 5-2.
Six minutes into the game B-Sens center Cody Bass delivered a head man pass up to Kaspars Daugavins, who brought the puck in along the right boards. Daugavins fed the puck to Josh Hennessy in the slot, who lasered a wrist shot over the glove of Sound Tigers' goaltender Scott Munroe to give the B-Sens the lead.
At 13:32, the Sound Tigers answered back. Defenseman Mark Flood fired a shot from the point that was turned aside by goaltender Chris Holt. The rebound stayed dormant in the slot until Greg Mauldin slapped the puck under the crossbar and across the goal line to even the game at one.
Bridgeport took the lead a minute and a half later. Sound Tigers defenseman Anton Klementyev fed a pass across the goal crease from the left circle that was deflected in the air by Holt, but the puck bounced off of the leg of winger Jesse Joensuu, and stopped on the goal line. Joensuu was there to stuff his own rebound.
The B-Sens tied the game with nearly five minutes remaining in the second. Martin St. Pierre fired a long, zone-clearing pass up to Denis Hamel waiting at the red line. Hamel one-timed the pass cross-ice to Ryan Keller skating along the opposite boards, who brought the puck in all alone, faked the shot and buried a backhand into the net to tie the game at two.
Keller gave the B-Sens the lead with 45 seconds remaining in the same period. Derek Smith grabbed a clearing attempt out of the air to keep the puck in the Sound Tigers zone. Smith then quickly slid a backhand pass to Keller who snapped a wrister under the arm of Munroe to give the Senators a one goal lead going into the third period.
It was all B-Sens in the third as Daugavins brought the puck up the right boards with one arm while fighting off a Bridgeport defender with the other. Daugavins cut in and chipped the puck into the chest of Munroe, who lost control of the puck. The trailing Erik Condra buried the rebound into the net to put Binghamton up two at 2:34 of the third period.
Three minutes later, after a brief scramble in the front, the puck wound up loose behind the net where Hennessy gathered it, wrapped around and launched a rising backhand to the top right corner of the net to lift the B-Sens to victory.
The Senators return to action Wednesday, Jan. 27 as they host the Adirondack Phantoms at 7:05 p.m.
