Moose Fall To Bears, 8-2
January 23, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose dropped an 8-2 decision to the Hershey Bears last night to finish the regular season 0-3-0-1 against the club from Pennsylvania. Guillaume Desbiens scored his ninth goal of the season in the loss while Evan Rankin scored his first AHL goal in his AHL debut. Daren Machesney stopped 33 of 41 shots in his 10th defeat this season.
After losing by five goals in last night's game against the Bears, the Moose came out flying and capitalized a mere 1:19 in the game. With a pass from Mario Bliznak, Guillaume Desbiens notched his ninth of the season with a quick shot into the right side a Braden Holtby's net to open the scoring.
Hershey was handed the first powerplay of the night when defenseman Evan Oberg was penalized for holding at 5:59. The Bears went one-for-one on the man-advantage when Keith Aucoin fired an unstoppable slap shot into Daren Machesney's cage to knot the game at one.
The Bears stole the lead right after winning the faceoff in Manitoba's zone. Oskar Osala topped the puck over Machesney at 11:50 to take a 2-1 lead. 27 seconds later, the Bears potted another one. Jay Beagle descended in on Machesney's net and beat the goaltender on his club's 16 shot of the night for a 3-1 tally.
Keith Aucoin earned his second of the night 1:48 into the second stanza. The goal further confirmed Aucoin's first place standing in AHL scoring with 25 goals so far this campaign.
The Moose earned their second powerplay of the night when Patrick Wellar was put away for tripping at 7:22. Mathieu Schneider evened the odds, however, when he was handed an interference penalty of his own at 7:34. Four-on-four hockey paid off for the home team when John Carlson escaped on a breakaway and beat Machesney on his glove side.
Evan Rankin - who was signed to a PTO today - made his AHL debut a memorable one when he scored his first AHL goal in the second period. At 14:07, Rankin beat Holtby on the club's 17th shot of the night to tighten the gap, 5-2.
26 seconds into the third period, Travis Ramsey was reprimanded for tripping. It only took the Bears 36 seconds into their fifth powerplay to capitalize. With a pass from Aucoin, Andrew Gordon beat Machesney for the sixth time of the night, 6-2.
At 9:38 Guillaume Desbiens was forced to sit out for a delay of game penalty allowing the Bears to connect. Chris Bourque scored his first goal of the night (to add to his three assists) and the third PP goal for the Bears, 7-2.
The Bears didn't hold back, scoring their eighth goal of the night off the stick of Boyd Kane. The Bears beat the Moose 8-2 and earned all eight points against the Manitoba club this regular season.
