
Devils Deal Pirates a Loss

Portland, Maine - Brad Mills and Matt Halischuk each scored a goal and an assist to lead the Lowell Devils to a 4-1 win over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 6,344 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Kory Nagy and Stephen Gionta netted the other Devils goals while Cory Murphy collected a pair of assists as Lowell improved to 27-16-3-1 with the victory. Kyle Wanvig scored the lone goal for the Pirates, who saw a modest two-game winning streak come to an end. Portland is now 21-16-5-2 on the year. Wanvig netted the only goal of the opening period, connecting on a power play to give the Pirates a 1-0 advantage after one. Lowell grabbed the lead with two goals in the final four minutes of the second. Nagy struck first to tie the game at one and Mills added another with six seconds left in the period to send the Devils into the third with a 2-1 lead. Halischuk and Gionta, into an empty net, completed the scoring. The Pirates out shot the Devils 34-31 in the game as Jhonas Enroth took the loss. The Allied Home Mortgage three stars of the game were all from the Devils. Mils was the first, Lowell goalie Mike McKenna the second and Halischuk the third.
The next Pirates home game takes place Tuesday when the Manchester Monarchs visit the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7 p.m. start. It's two-for-Tuesday presented by WBLM and WCYY as fans can purchase two tickets for $22. It's also Sun Tan City Ladies Night. Ladies can get an additional $2 off each ticket with a coupon available at any Sun Tan City location. While you are at the game you can play Pirates Bingo.
