Milwaukee Milkmen News Release
FRANKLIN, Wis. - The Milwaukee Milkmen defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 14-5 on Saturday night to officially claim the East Division crown and seal Milwaukee as the number one overall seed in the east.
The Milkmen got out to an early lead by scoring a run in the first inning when Bryan Torres scored a run on a wild pitch. Milwaukee then really jumped out to a lead in the third when Gabriel Cancel brought home Cam Balego on a sac fly, and both Reggie Pruitt Jr. and Rudy Maritin Jr. singled to score Roy Morales, Michael Crouse, Miguel Gomez, and Martin Jr. himself.
Gregori Vasquez started on the mound for Milwaukee and was able to go five and two-thirds innings while holding the RailCats to just four runs on seven hits. He then handed the ball to Frankie Bartow who went two and one-third innings and allowed just one other run to score.
Milwaukee's offense continued to put up runs throughout the game, however, Torres brought home four runs while Balego brought in another two. By the time Peyton Gray threw the final strikeout the Milkmen won by nine runs.
"It's a great feeling, the guys worked really hard all year to accomplish it," Milkmen manager Anthony Barone said of claiming the division crown. "It's a big goal at the beginning of the year to win a division title. It's just part one of our steps though."
The Milkmen will now play two more games against the RailCats to close out the regular season before Milwaukee will get to choose their opponent for the first round of the Miles Wolff Cup Playoffs. Tomorrow's game will be at 6:00 p.m. and we hope to see you soon!
Tickets are on sale at MilwaukeeMilkmen.com or at the Franklin Field Box Office prior to the game.
