Milam Doubles Up Falcons In Overtime

Manchester Monarchs News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Defenseman Troy Milam tallied twice to lift the Manchester Monarchs to their first win in six games, a 2-1 overtime victory over the Springfield Falcons in front of 3,522 fans at the MassMutual Center on Monday afternoon.

Manchester (24-24-4-3) is in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 55 points. Springfield (24-21-5-5) is in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 58 points.

Milam scored his second goal of the night and 10th tally of the season at 1:48 of overtime to end the Monarchs longest losing streak in franchise history at five games. With a delayed penalty being called on Springfield, left wing Matt Moulson stole the puck away from a sea of bodies along the left wing boards and walked in on Falcons netminder Devan Dubnyk. As Moulson approached the left doorstep of Dubnyk's crease, he was shoved by a defender but not before he slid the puck to Milam as he came barreling in toward the net from the right side. The quick one-timer into the open net ended the game in the Monarchs favor, moving them one-point closer to the Falcons for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division. Defenseman Peter Harrold also earned an assist on the game-winning goal.

The Monarchs and Falcons were scoreless through two periods of play until Milam put Manchester on the board at 8:33 of the final period. Defenseman Theo Peckham sat in the penalty box for the Falcons and the Monarchs power play went to work. Moulson sent a pass from behind the net through the slot where centers Gabe Gauthier and Matt Ryan attempted to get their stick on the puck. With Springfield's defensemen taking care of the centers, the puck was free for Milam to snap into the top of the net for his ninth goal of the season.

Peckham made up for his time in the penalty box as he tied the game at 1-1 at 15:40 of the third period with his sixth goal of the season. Bodies were falling in front of Monarchs goaltender Daniel Taylor and along the left side of his crease. After Taylor made the initial save on right wing Colin McDonald at the left corner of his crease, the puck traveled freely out to the slot. Peckham blasted a slap shot over Taylor's blocker to even the game and push overtime. Left wing Viacheslav Trukhno earned an assist on Springfield's lone goal.

Taylor earned his ninth win of the season stopping 35-of-36 shots. Dubnyk took the overtime loss with 21 saves.

Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Springfield was 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

The Monarchs return the Verizon Wireless Arena for back-to-back games with the Norfolk Admirals on Friday, February 22 and Saturday, February 23.
