Albany's Jensen Recalled By Carolina

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that center Joe Jensen has been recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League.

Jensen, 24, has appeared in six games for the River Rats since being acquired by Carolina in a trade with Pittsburgh on January 31st that sent center Dave Gove to the Penguins. The Maple Grove, Minnesota native played in 27 games and had four points (2 goals, 2 assists) for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins prior to the trade; he also tallied seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in 9 games with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. In his second year as a pro, Jensen has played in 59 career AHL games and 37 career ECHL games, putting him just four games shy of his 100th career pro game.

Jensen played four years of Division I college hockey at St. Cloud State University of the WCHA, appearing in 153 career NCAA games for the Huskies. He scored 100 points (45 goals, 55 assists) and had 100 penalty minutes in his collegiate career. Jensen was drafted by Pittsburgh in the eighth round (232nd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

The River Rats begin an arduous schedule of five games in seven days on Monday with a 4:05 pm matinee against the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Wachovia Spectrum. Albany's next home game is slated for Friday, February 22nd at 7:00 pm against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Times Union Center.
