April 7, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA - Rampage forward Mikko Rantanen has been named to the 2015-16 AHL All-Star Second Team. Rantanen, 19, is the first postseason AHL All-Star selection in franchise history.
The youngest player to ever suit up for the Silver and Black, the Nousiainen, Finland native has recorded 22 goals and 35 assists this season, putting him first among the league's rookies and tied for eighth among all skaters with 57 points despite having only played 48 games.
A first-round (10th overall) pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2015 NHL Draft, Rantanen has set franchise records for assists and points by a rookie, surpassing Chad Kolarik's 30 assists and 50 points in the 2008-09 season. He's one goal away from breaking the franchise record for goals by a rookie, where he's currently tied with Connor Brickley, who recorded 22 goals in the 2014-15 campaign.
Rantanen represented the Rampage in the 2016 AHL All-Star Classic, becoming the second-youngest player to participate in the event's modern history. He also captained Finland to the gold medal at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship.
