COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Manny Miguelez pitched his second complete game of the season, and his West Michigan Whitecaps captured the first game of a four-game series against the Great Lakes Loons by a final score of 5-1. Both of Miguelez's complete games have come against the Loons. His previous effort, June 7 at Dow Diamond, was a six-inning complete game.

Miguelez allowed one earned run on six hits, striking out six and walking two.

Cory Wade, a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers' bullpen, started for the Loons on a rehabilitation assignment. He pitched a scoreless first inning allowing a hit, in his attempt to return from right shoulder inflammation. He retired the first two he faced - Kyle Peter and Joe Tucker - on fly outs, then surrendered a base hit to right by Alex Avila before retiring Audy Ciriaco on a comebacker to the mound. Los Angeles placed Wade on the DL on August 14. The Dodgers assigned him to the Midwest League for rehab due to potential inclement weather in Jacksonville.

Garrett White entered in the second in relief and pitched six innings, allowing eight hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out a season-high seven batters. White (2-3) surrendered a third-inning two-run home run to Tucker, which gave the Whitecaps a 2-1 lead.

The Loons struck for their lone run in the third. Jovanny Rosario extended his hitting streak to nine with a single to right field, scoring Francisco Lizarraga to give the Loons a short-lived lead.

The Whitecaps extended their lead in the eighth against reliever Cal Stanke. With no outs, West Michigan loaded the bases on a single and two walks. Peter followed with a two-run single. Then Tucker grounded into a double play, bringing home the team's fifth tally.

The Loons and Whitecaps continue their series Tuesday night beginning at 7pm. Left-hander Juan Cedeno (0-3, 5.40 ERA), who began the season in the Tigers' organization, will start for the Loons opposite lefty Aaron Fuhrman (0-0, 0.00). The game will be carried on the Loons' flagship radio home, ESPN 100.9-FM, and online at Loons.com.

The Great Lakes Loons are the second-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
