BELOIT, Wisc. - The Kane County Cougars fell behind, 3-0, Monday night at Pohlman Field, battled back to tie the game in the eighth but eventually lost, 4-3, in 11 innings against the Beloit Snappers. Jamie Richmond pitched a quality start, and Lance Sewell contributed three hitless relief innings to lead the way, but the Cougars couldn't manage another run late in the contest after they'd battled back.

Richmond left after 6 2/3 innings and appeared headed toward a hard-luck loss. He yielded three runs -- two earned -- on six hits, walked two and fanned three in a no-decision. Sewell finished the seventh for him and then pitched into the 10th, fanning four men and walking two.

The Cougars scored all of their runs in the eighth inning against relievers Blake Martin and Santos Arias. Michael Richard drew a bases-loaded walk, Todd Johnson posted a sacrifice fly and Greg Dowling singled home Adam Klein to tie it, 3-3. The Cougars stranded one runner in the ninth and two in both the 10th and 11th en route to the loss. Leonardo Espinal (5-4) walked the first batter in the bottom of the 11th and balked him to second before a single brought in the deciding tally.

The Cougars (30-33) and Snappers (31-32) continue the four-game series Tuesday night at 7 CT. Anthony Capra (4-2, 4.03) will face Mike Allen (0-0, 1.42).
