Middle Innings Meddle Akron in 5-0 Loss to Somerset
August 4, 2023 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron pitchers combine to strikeout 14, but the Somerset Patriots score in each of the middle innings to down the Akron RubberDucks 5-0 on Friday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
After being held without a baserunner until one out in the fourth, Somerset was finally able to get traffic on the bases. The Patriots worked four walks in the inning to plate a run and pull ahead 1-0.
Mound Presence
Hunter Stanley was dominating Somerset the first time through the order not allowing a baserunner while striking out six including five in a row. After the Patriots struck for one in fourth without a benefit of a hit, Stanley ran into trouble in the fifth allowing three runs. In total, the right-hander allowed four runs over 4.1 innings while striking out nine. Matt Turner allowed a run over 2.2 innings with four strikeouts. Trey Benton followed with two scoreless innings while striking out one.
Duck Tales
Akron's offense was held in check for most of the night. The RubberDucks were only able to have multiple men reach base once in the second on back-to-back walks by Connor Kokx and Petey Halpin but a flyout and strikeout would end the inning. Akron finished the game going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position while leaving six on base.
Notebook
Nine strikeouts are a career-high for Stanley...Bracho's 10 game hitting streak was snapped in the loss...Milan Tolentino singled in the sixth for his first Double-A hit...Game Time: 2:29...Attendance: 6,681.
