DAYTON, OH - Devin Mesoraco's third inning grand slam was enough. The Dayton Dragons defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-2 Thursday night at Fifth Third Field. Dayton starting pitcher Kyle Lotzkar kept the Rattlers off the scoreboard for five innings to get his second win in a row. The loss was Wisconsin's twelfth straight.

Dayton (10-11 second half, 38-51 overall) grabbed the early lead with an RBI single by Logan Parker in the bottom of the first inning.

Dayton grabbed control of the game in the bottom of the third. They loaded the bases against Wisconsin starting pitcher Edward Paredes with a pair of singles and a walk. Paredes got ahead of Mesoraco 0-2, but his next pitch was crushed to left-center for a grand slam and a 5-0 Dragon lead.

Lotzkar left after five scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and struck out seven.

Wisconsin (3-17, 34-52) got on the scoreboard against the Dayton bullpen. Denny Almonte doubled to center against Dragon reliever Henry Arias. He would move to third on a wild pitch. Ron Garth's infield single drove in Almonte to cut Dayton's advantage to 5-1.

In the eighth, Derrick Conatser entered the game for Dayton and hit Daniel Carroll with a pitch. The Rattler outfielder stole second, went to third on a grounder, and scored on a ground out by Denny Almonte. The manufactured run got Wisconsin to within 5-2. But, that was as close as the Rattlers would get.

Zach Stewart pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save.

The series between the Rattlers and Dragons wraps up on Friday night. Keith Renaud (0-0, 0.75) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Luis Montano (8-6, 4.33) is set to start for the Dragons. Game time is 6:00pm CDT.
