Weber's early dominance wasted by Whitecaps

COMSTOCK PARK - Thad Weber threw five hitless innings as the Whitecaps starting pitcher, but took the loss in a 6-1 Clinton victory. With the victory, the LumberKings have clinched their first season series win over the Whitecaps since 1999.

Engel Beltre had the only hit allowed by Weber. It was a triple in the sixth inning that tied the game, 1-1. Beltre later scored the lead run on a sacrifice fly by Tim Smith off reliever Wilton Garcia.

Weber hit two batters in the inning, including Davis Stoneburner, who led off the frame and scored the tying run. It was the second outing in a row that Weber had carried a no hitter into at least the fifth. He did not allow a hit through 4.1 against Fort Wayne last Friday. The first run of the game scored on an RBI single by Audy Ciriaco with no outs in the first. Justin Henry crossed the plate for the Whitecaps following the first of his two doubles on the night.

When Ciriaco grounded out in the third inning, he fell to the ground with an apparent leg injury and did not return. Clinton put the game away with four runs in the seventh inning to claim a 6-1 advantage. Beltre singled and along with Andres James scored on a double by Mitch Moreland that capped the rally. Stoneburner also had an RBI double in the inning. Michael Main made his Midwest League debut for the LumberKings. He allowed one run on five hits over the first 4.2 innings of the game. Reliever Ryan Turner, who retired all four Whitecaps that he faced, earned the victory. Left fielder Jordan Newton was ejected from the game in the bottom of the ninth for arguing a called third strike.
