New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Melky Mesa homered twice and Mike McDade added a solo shot, but the Fisher Cats (23-36) saw their five-game win streak come to an end to the Bowie Baysox (30-29) on Thursday night, 7-4. Bowie pounded out 15 hits, denying the Fisher Cats their second consecutive series sweep.
The series finale followed the same pattern of the first two with the team that scored first ending up on the losing side. The Fisher Cats scored in each of the first three innings against starter Tyler Wilson (W; 6-5). Ryan Schimpf brought home the first run before McDade and Mesa homered in the second and third innings, respectively.
Leading 3-0, P.J. Walters (ND) allowed two runs to the Baysox in the fourth, cutting the lead to 3-2. He gave up one more before leaving in the sixth, leaving the game in a 3-3 tie.
Bowie took the lead in the seventh thanks to a pair of lead-off walks from Tyler Ybarra (L; 2-2). Arik Sikula came on in relief of Ybarra, but he gave up a pair of run scoring singles and an RBI double to give Bowie the 6-3 lead.
Mesa answered in the bottom of the seventh, going deep to right field to cut the deficit to 6-4, but Bowie tacked on another run in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Wilson earned the win going six innings while giving up just two earned runs. He struck out eight and walked one. Walters, in his first home start, allowed three earned, scattering nine hits over 5.2 innings.
Mesa and McDade each finished with their first three-hit games of the season for the Fisher Cats. Ronald Bermudez led Bowie's hitters going 4-5 and scoring a pair of runs to help the Baysox end a seven-game slide.
Despite the loss, the Fisher Cats have won back-to-back series for the second time this year. They'll open a three-game home series with the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers) on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Friday's game features a poster giveaway to the first 2,500 fans courtesy of Spectrum Marketing Companies.
