
Taylor Named May Player of the Month

Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce Harrisburg Senators outfielder Michael Taylor has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of May. Taylor batted .374 (40-for-107) with six doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 23 runs scored, 22 RBI, nine stolen bases, a .446 on-base percentage and a .720 slugging percentage in 29 games during the month. The 23-year old recorded at least one hit in 23 of the 29 games he played in during the month and had multiple hits in 13 of those games. He also homered in back-to-back games twice during the month of May. He first accomplished the feat on May 8th and May 9th at Binghamton, and followed that up by going deep in both games of a doubleheader sweep over the visiting New Hampshire Fisher Cats on May 17th. The 6'3", 210 lb. slugger led all Eastern Players in slugging percentage (.720) and OPS (1.166) during the month. He also finished the month ranked among the league leaders in total bases (77-tied 1st), hits (40-tied 2nd), home runs (9-tied 2nd), on-base percentage (.446-3rd), batting average (.374-tied 3rd), runs scored (23-4th), extra-base hits (17-4th), triples (2-tied 5th) and stolen bases (9-tied 6th).
Taylor, who is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is hitting .318 in 54 games for the Senators this season and is currently tied for the Eastern League lead with 15 home runs. He is also currently ranked second in the league in slugging percentage (.612), OPS (1.012) and total bases (123), ranked third in RBI (41), tied for third in extra-base hits (27), ranked fourth in runs scored (40) and ranked fifth in stolen bases (15).
Michael, who entered the season rated by MLB.com as the fourth best prospect in the Nationals organization, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the sixth round of the 2009 draft out of Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
