Senators Taylor Wins Player of the Month

The Eastern League announced this afternoon that Harrisburg Senators outfielder Michael Taylor has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for May. Taylor is the first Senator to win the award since Stephen Strasburg was named the EL Player of the Month for April 2010. Taylor is the first Harrisburg position player to receive the monthly honors since Kory Casto in 2006.

In May, Taylor hit .374 with nine home runs, 23 runs scored, 22 RBI and nine stolen bases. Taylor, who is tied for the EL lead with 15 homers, was tied for second-most long balls in the league during the month. He was tied for the league lead in total bases (77), and led the league in slugging percentage (.720) and OPS (1.166). The 23-year old was also among the top five of May in hits (40), on-base percentage (.446), extra-base hits (17).

Taylor, the sixth round selection of the Washington Nationals in 2009, hit six of his nine May homers in a 12-day span from May 17 to May 28. On May 17, Taylor hit a home run in both games of a doubleheader against New Britain. Taylor finished the month on an 11-game hitting streak that was not snapped until June 3. He also has a team-high six outfield assists.

The Sens' everyday centerfielder entered the season as the No. 4 prospect in the Nationals organization according to MLB.com. On April 27 against Bowie, he became the first Harrisburg Senator to hit three home runs in a game since Danny Espinosa hit three at Binghamton on August 4, 2010.
