Reading loses on walk-off home run in extras

The Fightin Phils gave a solid effort despite giving up a 5-2 lead as they fell to the Harrisburg Senators 8-7 in 12 innings on a walk-off home run off Fightins reliever Jay Johnson by first-baseman Matt Skole. Reading heads back to Baseballtown coming off a 1-5 road trip. Reading is now 30-27 on the season.

Reading scored two runs off Senators starter James Simmons to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4th inning as Aaron Altherr hit a RBI single to score Carlos Alonso and Logan Moore hit a RBI double to score Brock Stassi.

Altherr provided another RBI single off Simmons in the top of the 6th inning followed by a RBI single by Edgar Duran to give the Figthin Phils a 4-0 lead. Adam Loewen pitched five innings and gave up three hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Quincy Latimore hit a two-run home run off Austin Wright in the bottom of the 6th inning to cut the Fightins lead in half 4-2.

Kyle Simon tossed a scoreless 1 1/3 in relief of Austin Wright. Mike Nesseth pitched a scoreless 8th inning. The Fightin Phils scored an insurance run in the top of the 9th inning as Addison Maruszak hit a RBI single off Senators reliever Brian Dupra to score Carlos Alonso and give the Fightins a 5-2 lead.

Harrisburg tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 9th off Nefi Ogando as Michael Taylor hit a two RBI double and Cutter Dykstra hit a sacrifice fly to score Taylor.

Reading took the lead off Paolo Espino and the Senators in the top of the 12th inning as Anthony Phillips broke the 5-5 tie with a RBI single to score Logan Moore and Albert Cartwright hit a RBI single to score Edgar Duran to give the Fightins a 7-5 lead.

The Reading Fightin Phils begin a seven-game home stand on Friday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Richmond Flying Squirrels come to first for a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
