Last Time Out: The Memphis Redbirds split a doubleheader against the Louisville Bats on Friday night. In game one, the 'Birds got off to a great start when Lane Thomas homered on the first pitch of the game. The Memphis offense was stifled the rest of the game, only recording one more hit. The second run of the game came when Kramer Robertson scored on a past ball, but Louisville won the game 4-2. Game two was a pitcher's duel, with the score locked at 1-1 into extra innings. Conner Capel got the 'Birds on the board with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Angel Rondón gave the Redbirds a solid start, allowing just one run in 4.0 inning while striking out four. The Memphis bullpen was stellar in the game, as Seth Elledge, Connor Jones and T.J. McFarland combined to pitch 4.0-scoreless innings. Scott Hurst came through with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth, which proved to be the game-winner.

Memphis Starter: Zack Thompson will make his 11th appearance and ninth start of the season for the Redbirds today. Thompson pitched 3.0 innings in relief last Saturday against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and earned his second save of the season and his career. Thompson's last start was against the Toledo Mud Hens on June 25 when he yielded five runs in four innings but tied a season-high with five strikeouts. Thompson was selected by St. Louis with the 19th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of Kentucky. He is ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the Cardinals' organization by MLB Pipeline.

Louisville Starter: Ashton Goudeau gets the ball for Louisville this evening. It will be his sixth appearance and fourth start of the season for the Bats. Goudeau last pitched out of the bullpen last Sunday in Nashville and allowed three runs in 2.0 innings. He has not started a game for Louisville since May 30. The 28-year-old has been riding the shuttle between Cincinnati and Louisville this season, going up-and-down seven times, most recently being optioned to Louisville on July 2. In five appearances in the major leagues with the Reds this season, Goudeau has a 4.00 ERA in 9.0 innings. After being drafted by Kansas City in the 27th round of the 2012 MLB Draft, Goudeau has been moving around a lot. He has pitched for affiliates of the Royals, Mariners and Rockies before this season. Since November 25, 2020, Goudeau has been claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh, Baltimore, San Francisco, Los Angeles [NL], Colorado and Cincinnati, but has only pitched for Reds' affiliates.

Welcome to the Future: Nolan Gorman and Matthew Liberatore will he playing in the SiriusXM Future's Game at Coors Field in Colorado on Sunday. Both Gorman and Liberatore were first-round picks out of high school in Arizona after growing up as close friends. Liberatore is the top ranked prospect in the Cardinals' organization, while Gorman sits one spot behind. The two are also ranked as the No. 27 and No. 28 prospects in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline.

Winning the Close Ones: With a 2-1 win in eight innings in the second game of Friday's doubleheader, the Redbirds are now 13-7 in games decided by one run. 34% of the 'Birds games this season have been decided by a single run and 59% of the club's wins have come by one run.

Saving the Wins: Each of the last five wins for the Redbirds have included a pitcher picking up a save. That is the longest streak of saves this season, with the 'Birds having eight total saves as a team in 2021.
