Erie SeaWolves News Release
(Erie, PA) - On Friday night, Erie SeaWolves fans were stunned by the shocking defeat of Dan 'The Bubble Boy' Buckets in the Knocker Ball Challenge, a game day event featuring contestants colliding in giant, inflatable bubbles. The Bubble Boy's undefeated streak ended at just under one year and two months.
In response to the Bubble Boy's defeat, the SeaWolves are holding an open Knocker Ball Challenge amongst all willing participants in the Erie media. Members of the media who wish to participate will be randomly drawn to face each other at UPMC Park in a tournament-style bracket. Preliminary matches will be held during SeaWolves games from June 8-10. The final four preliminary round winners will return to participate in an Erie Media Knocker Ball Showdown on Buck Night, Monday, June 18 when the SeaWolves host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 7:05 p.m.
The SeaWolves will donate $500 to the winner's designated charity, and the winner will be crowned as the 2018 Knocker Ball Mediaweight Champion. The winner will be brought back to UPMC Park at a later date to be honored and to present the $500 check to the winning charity.
"The SeaWolves invite all interested media personalities to throw their hats in the ring," SeaWolves President Greg Coleman said. "Some members of the Erie media pride themselves on delivering hard-hitting news. Soon we'll see just how hard they can hit."
To participate in the Erie Media Knocker Ball Showdown, please send your name, media outlet, headshot (high resolution JPG file) and charity of your choice to Greg Gania ( ggania@seawolves.com) by Friday, June 1. Match-ups will be announced on Monday, June 4.
