BINGHAMTON BATS MASH IN SERIES OPENER: Behind three home runs and seven strong innings from Mickey Jannis, the Rumble Ponies topped the Baysox, 6-4, Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton collected all six of their runs in the second and third innings.

BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Joseph Shaw makes his 9th start of the season and first against Bowie. In his last start, on May 20 at New Hampshire, Shaw allowed a season-low two runs over his five frames, but could not earn his first Double-A win. Binghamton won 10-8 in extra innings and have won back-to-back games started by Shaw.

BINGHAMTON SPIEDIES: For the first time in franchise history, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies become the Binghamton Spiedies for Saturday's contest. The Spiedies pay homage to the locally-beloved sandwich, highlighting Binghamton baseball's 26-year partnership with Lupo's.

WHAT'S A SPIEDIE?: Pronounced "spee-dee", the locally-popular sandwich consists of marinated cubes of chicken, pork, lamb or beef grilled on spits or skewers and served on a roll. The name derives from the Italian word "spiedo" meaning "spit or skewer."

A SUMMER TRADITION: Every year in August, Binghamton hosts the Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally. The weekend-long celebration includes a spiedie cook-off.

RECORD-SETTING WIN: Friday's win occurred in front of the 14th largest crowd in Binghamton franchise history. The 6,510 in attendance is the largest crowd of the 2018 season, and the biggest since Binghamton's franchise-record crowd of 7,412 on July 17, 2008.

BACK TO BASHING: One night after having their 12-game home run streak snapped, the Rumble Ponies hit three in Friday's win. Matt Oberste hit his fourth of the season, before Champ Stuart clocked his second and Peter Alonso his league-leading 13th. Binghamton leads the league with 55 HR this season.

SEVENTH HEAVEN (AGAIN): RHP Mickey Jannis is the third Rumble Ponies pitcher to toss at least seven innings this season, doing so just one night after RHP Scott Copeland did it. RHP Andrew Church also twirled seven frames back on April 19 against New Hampshire.

SHAW VS. ORIOLES: The only time Joseph Shaw faced an Orioles affiliate was on July 14, 2016 as a member of Columbia (Low-A). He allowed a first-inning home run to Cedric Mullins in a no-decision against Delmarva (BAL: Low-A), tossing 6.2 innings of four-run baseball.

UP NEXT: The Spiedies revert to their Rumble Ponies moniker and play the Baysox on Sunday evening at 6:35 PM. Binghamton will battle Bowie LHP Keegan Akin
