Trenton Thunder News Release
ERIE, PA - Trey Amburgey hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the 11th inning to secure a 4-1 Thunder victory over the Erie SeaWolves on Saturday night at UPMC Park.
With men on first and third and one out in the 11th, Amburgey sent an 0-1 pitch off the Erie Insurance Arena down the left field line to break a 1-1 tie. Amburgey's line drive shot was his fourth home run of the season.
Jordan Foley worked around a pair of walks with two out in the bottom half of the inning to secure his eighth save of the season, tying him for second-most in the Eastern League.
The Thunder appeared to be on their way to their third 1-0 win of the season on Saturday night, thanks to Jeff Hendrix's sixth inning home run, until Erie rallied to tie the game in the ninth. Working against Caleb Frare, the SeaWolves got a one out double from Dominic Ficociello. Frare came back to strike out Jake Rogers and appeared to get out of the inning when he induced a groundball off the bat of Chad Sedio to first. Chris Gittens fell to a knee attempting to field the grounder and couldn't get it to Frare covering at first before Sedio arrived at the bag. Danny Woodrow then tied the game with a single to right, however, Frare came back to strike out Sergio Alcantara and send the game to extras.
Right-hander Michael King took a no-decision in his second straight start at Double-A after throwing six scoreless innings on Saturday night. He out dueled top Tigers prospect Kyle Funkhouser by striking out seven batters and allowing just four singles and two walks. James Reeves also fired two scoreless innings to set the stage for the ninth.
Saturday marked the first game of the 2018 season in which the Thunder scored all of their runs via the long ball. It was just the seventh time this year that the Thunder hit two or more home runs in a game and the team improved to 6-1 when doing so.
Your Thunder continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon at 1:35pm against the SeaWolves. RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (1-0, 2.08) will start for the Thunder, LHP Tyler Alexander (3-1, 3.02) will go for Erie.
