
Fightins sweep double-header

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Portland, ME) - The Reading Fightin Phils (19-27) beat the Portland Sea Dogs (16-31) 3-2 in eight innings in game one and 6-3 in game two on Saturday afternoon. The last time the Fightin Phils swept a double-header was on September 3, 2017 in Trenton.
Game One
Damek Tomscha got the Fightin Phils on the scoreboard early by hitting a RBI single off Dedgar Jimenez in the top of the first inning to give them a 1-0 lead. Fightin Phils starting pitcher Franklyn Kilome retired the first seven batters before Portland tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Austin Rei scored on a throwing error by centerfielder Jiandido Tromp.
Zach Green broke the 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth inning as he homered off Jimenez to give the Fightins a 2-1 lead. The home run was his tenth of the season. The Sea Dogs tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning as pinch-runner Jeremy Rivera scored on a wild pitch.
Kilome left the game after 6 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs (one earned) off three hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Edgar Garcia (1-1) entered the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and got the final out of the inning.
Green hit a go-ahead RBI single off Sea Dogs reliever Daniel McGrath (1-1) to give the Fightin Phils a 3-2 lead. Kyle Martin scored the run as the placed runner to begin the top of the eighth inning. Garcia recorded the final three outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Game Two
Malquin Canelo led off the game with a solo home run against Sea Dogs starter Travis Lakins (0-2) to give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead. Cord Sandberg added a RBI single and Jan Hernandez hit a two-run double. Fightins starter Elniery Garcia pitched just 3 1/3 innings as Sea Dogs catcher hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Ranfi Casimiro (1-1) allowed run in the bottom of the fifth inning that saw the Fightins lead get cut to 4-3. Sandberg added a sacrifice fly off Trevor Kelley in the top of the sixth inning that was followed up by a RBI double from Jan Hernandez to give the Fightins a 6-3 lead. Tyler Gilbert pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn his first save of the season.
