The lone goal in the third period came from Adam Edinger who recorded his 26th goal of the season. Mike Burgoyne and Peter Szabo tallied the assists on the game-winning goal. Tom Kotsopoulos and Chris Bogas assisted on the goal. Again both teams would trade goals throughout the game. Adam Edinger scored his 27th goal of the season when he fired a shot from Brent Gretzky and Peter Szabo. Szabo then scored one of his own in the third to give the Mechanics the 3-2 lead. The RiverDogs, however, responded on the power play with less than two minutes to go to tie the game, forcing a shootout. In the shootout Adam Edinger scored the only goal for the Mechanics. That would be all they would need as Rod Branch shut the door on all five Dog attempts to win the game 4-3. Rod Branch made 24 saves to earn his 19th win of the season and in the process win his 50th UHL game. 1/29: MECHANICS TAKE DOWN ANOTHER SET OF DOGS AS THEY SCORE SIX AGAINST THE JACKALS These two teams traded players back in December. David Herring came to the Motor City while Konstantin Kalmikov went to the Jackals. It was the first meeting of two that these two would battle against their former teammates. It did not disappoint either, as both Kalmikov and Herring would score against their former teams. Kalmikov started the games scoring at 12:01 while Herring responded with his own goal just 1:42 into the second period. The Mechanics went onto score three more goals to take a 4-1 lead midway through the third period. Vlad Serov scored his 5th goal in his past seven games, 5th of the season, while Brent Gretzky would score his first of two on the night and Adam Edinger scored his 28th goal of the season. Kalmikov would score again for the Jackals to cut the lead in half but the Mechanics would answer just minutes later when Gretzky scored and then Kevin Hansen scored late on an empty net to seal the game 6-2. Rod Branch made his 40th start out of 44 games this season and made 38 saves to earn his 20th win of the season.
