Adirondack Frostbite News Release
LAST WEEK: Adirondack went 2-0-0 last week, stretching its winning streak to four games, and its unbeaten streak to five. The Frostbite are 25-12-3 for 53 points and are in second place of the Eastern Division, six points behind Danbury with four games in hand.
Friday, January 27 @ Missouri FROSTBITE 3 River Otters 2 Trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes, the Frostbite tied the game early in the second period off of a Ryan Bennett shorthanded goal. Kevin Watters gave Adirondack its first lead of the night with his team-leading 27th goal of the season at 7:06. Missouri tied the game late in the second period off of a Reed Low goal. The Frostbite got the game-winning goal off of the stick of Josh Mizerek with just 2:02 left in the third period. Derek Gustafson withstood a River Otters' flurry in the closing minute to pick up the win between the pipes.
Saturday, January 28 @ Quad City FROSTBITE 4 Mallards 0 The Frostbite got off to a quick start as Hugo Belanger, Dmitri Suur, and Greg Koehler all tallied in the first period to give Adirondack a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Blue Bennefield added a score of his own midway through the second period. That was more than enough for Derek Gustafson who turned aside all 37 Quad City shots to record the Frostbite's first shutout of the season. The loss was Quad City's first in regulation against an Eastern Division team since a 4-2 loss to the Adirondack IceHawks in February 2003. Since that loss, the Mallards had gone 17-0-1 against Eastern Division foes.
