All-Stars shine in mid-season classic

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- The 2006 UHL All-Star Classic came to Missouri on Wednesday, January 25th. A crowd of 5,603 was on hand at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri to watch Team Aquafina defeat Team Gatorade by a score of 9-7. Roanoke Valley Vipers left wing David Beauregard got off to hot start as he netted three goals within the first 22 minutes of play. He would add a fourth goal later in the second period to help him earned Team Aquafina Most Valuable Player honors.

Elmira Jackals rookie right wing Jarrett Konkle had a huge night as he dished out five assists for Team Aquafina. He assisted on all four of Beauregard's goals. Danbury Trashers forward Alex Goupil tallied three points (2g, 1a) including an empty net goal at 18:55 to seal the win for Team Aquafina. Motor City Mechanics goaltender Rod Branch made 15 saves to earn the victory.

Team Gatorade was paced by a pair of hometown Missouri River Otters. Winger Jim Duhart notched three points (2g, 1a) to earn Most Valuable Player honors for his team, and right wing Frank Littlejohn also collected three points (1g, 2a). Muskegon Fury center Jeff Nelson was selected as captain of Team Gatorade and led the squad with four points (1g, 3a).

Prior to the game, the UHL Commissioner's Team defeated the St. Louis Blues Alumni 7-4 in a special charity game. All-time professional minor league hockey goal scorer Kevin Kerr paced the UHL squad with two goals. Darren Pang was the winning goaltender for the UHL, and then later grabbed a microphone to provide the color commentary for the television broadcast of the All-Star Game.

In addition to the 5,603 fans in attendance, more that 1,100 fans tuned into the free live broadcast of the event by B2 Networks. The game was also broadcast on Friday and Saturday by FSN Midwest.

ALL-STAR AUCTION BEGINS ON TUESDAY - Jerseys worn during the All-Star Charity Game will be placed in an auction via the UHL website, www.theuhl.com, beginning on Tuesday, January 31st. All proceeds of this auction will benefit St. Louis Children's Hospital. In addition, the jerseys and helmets worn by the UHL All-Stars will also be in the online auction beginning Tuesday.

QUAD CITY AND FLINT JOIN 500 CLUB - The Quad City Mallards faced the Flint Generals on Friday, January 20th with both sitting at 499 wins in their UHL history. Quad City exploded with a five-goal first period and went to claim a 5-1 victory to earn the 500th win for the organization. The Flint Generals would have to wait one more week to eclipse the 500 mark as they defeated the Roanoke Valley Vipers 6-3 to become the fourth club in UHL history to hit 500 wins.

Adirondack Frostbite - (2-0-0) - Dane Jackson is 4-0-0 since taking over as head coach...Defenseman Dmitri Suur and center Greg Koehler each scored their first goals of the season in Saturday's 4-0 vs. Quad City...The Frostbite killed off each of their opponent's ten power play opportunities this week...Goaltender Derek Gustafson recorded his fifth shutout in his Frostbite career on Saturday...31 of the final 36 games for Adirondack are vs. Eastern Division teams.

Danbury Trashers - (1-1-0) - The Trashers have at least one power play goal in each of their last 14 games going 19 of 81 (23.45%) on the power play during that stretch...Center Drew Omicioli is riding a ten-game point streak. His eight power play goals are one shy of the team record set last season by Jeff Daw...Dave MacIsaac has ten goals this season which is a personal career best...Forward Alex Goupil has played the most games in the team's two-year history (104) and scored the most goals (41).

Elmira Jackals - (1-2-0) - Although they have lost their last two games, the Jackals are 6-4-0 in their last ten contests...Forwards Jarrett Konkle (137) and Chris Chaput (136) rank third and fourth among UHL rookies in shots on goal...Elmira is 9-2-1 when leading after two periods...With the 6-2 loss to Motor City on Sunday, the Jackals are now 3-10-1 vs. teams outside their division.

Flint Generals - (1-1-0) - Center Terry Marchant is riding a six-game assist streak. He is also tied for 10th in UHL scoring with 46 points (16g, 30a)...Flint defeated Roanoke Valley on Friday 6-3 despite being out-shot 36-23...Right wing Mike Kinnie has 12 points (6g, 6a) in seven games with the Generals this season...Flint is 14-0-2 when leading after two periods.

Fort Wayne Komets - (1-0-0) - The Komets lead the UHL in shootout conversion rate at .485 (16/33). They have competed in a league low six shootouts this season...Fort Wayne is 16-6-0 in their last 22 games...Center Colin Chaulk's power play goal on Saturday was the first Komet power play goal in four games vs. Kalamazoo this season...Fort Wayne is 17-1-0 when leading after two periods...Kevin St. Pierre is third among UHL goaltenders in save percentage (.922).

Kalamazoo Wings - (0-1-1) - Kalamazoo is on a four-game home winless streak...The K-Wings have killed off 22 of the last 25 opponent power plays (88%)...Kalamazoo leads the UHL with 60 power play goals scored...Forward Kory Karlander has recorded a point in each of his last 11 roads games. Left wing Nick Bootland has a point in each of his last nine road games...Defenseman Daniel Carriere (108) is three assists shy of tying Randy Holmes for the K-Wings UHL team record for assists in a career.

Missouri River Otters - (1-1-0) - In his second game back with the team, left wing Lonnie Loach dished out two assists in the 3-2 win vs. Port Huron on Saturday. He is the all-time leading scorer in team history...Right wing Reed Low had a goal in each of his first two games with the team this week...Missouri drew their largest crowd of the season on Saturday (5,017)...The Otters are 8-9-2 vs. the Central Division, but just 4-18-1 combined vs. the Western and Eastern Divisions.

Motor City Mechanics - (3-0-0) - Goaltender Rod Branch recorded his 50th UHL win in Saturday's 4-3 shootout victory vs. Richmond...Center Brent Gretzky recorded the 900th point of his career when his dished out an assist in the third period of Sunday's 6-2 win vs. Elmira. He also had two goals in the third period...Gretzky has a five-game assist streak...Forward Peter Szabo (13g, 28a) has tied the team record for most points by a Mechanics rookie in one season...Center Adam Edinger is riding a four-game goal streak.

Muskegon Fury - (1-0-1) - Muskegon is unbeaten in their last 12 games (11-0-1)...With the 5-4 shootout victory vs. Roanoke Valley on Saturday, Todd Nelson is now tied for the most coaching wins in Fury history (130)...In their 20 road games this season, the Fury have scored 99 goals, which is nearly five per game...Muskegon has won their last seven road games and are unbeaten in regulation in their last seven home games (6-0-1)...Right wing Robin Bouchard is one goal shy of tying Kevin Kerr (469) as the career leader in UHL goals.

Port Huron Flags - (1-1-0) - The Flags snapped their eight-game winless streak and eight-game road winless streak with a 4-3 win vs. Quad City on Sunday...Left wing Brett Lutes is fourth in the UHL with 170 shots on goal... With 28 saves on Sunday, goaltender Scott Hay has eclipsed the 1,000 save mark this season. His 1,005 saves are currently the third most in the UHL.

Quad City Mallards - (1-2-0) - The Mallards tied a season high with three power play goals in Friday's 5-4 shootout win vs. Muskegon...Friday's victory was their third consecutive shootout win after they had lost their first five this season...Center Patrick Nadeau scored his 199th career goal on Sunday vs. Port Huron...Quad City welcomed the 3 millionth fan in team history on Saturday.

Richmond RiverDogs - (0-1-1) - Center Mike Oliveira is riding an 11-game point streak and a seven-game goal streak. He ranks fourth in UHL scoring with 55 points (28g, 27a)...Saturday's crowd of 5,929 was the third largest for the RiverDogs this season...Despite being winless in their last two games, Richmond is 6-3-1 in their last ten contests...Defenseman Dan Vandermeer is currently sixth overall in UHL scoring and is tied for second in assists (42).

Roanoke Valley Vipers - (0-1-1) - Rookie left wing Mike Wiggins is riding an eight-game point streak. He has 18 points (13g, 5a) in 18 games since being acquired in a trade from Fort Wayne in December...Left wing David Beauregard notched a "hat trick" (3g) in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to Muskegon...The Vipers are in the midst of an eight-game road stretch...Roanoke ranks last in the UHL in goals allowed per game (4.00).

Rockford IceHogs - (2-0-0) - Rockford is riding a six-game winning streak...They are 14-1-4 in their last 19 games...Rookie defenseman Ryan Carrigan has recorded a plus/minus rating of even or better in 22 consecutive games...Rookie winger Chaz Johnson has three game-winning goals in the last ten games...The rookie line combination of Johnson (13g, 15a), Yannick Tifu (12g, 26a), and Robin Big Snake (19g, 9a) have combined for 94 points this season...The IceHogs are outscoring their opponents 63-32 in the third period this season.
