Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Right-hander Marty McLeary allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings, while center fielder Rajai Davis and right fielder Luis Matos brought home two runs apiece as Indianapolis defeated Toledo, 5-1, Tuesday night at Victory Field. The Indians improve 3-2 on the season, while the Mud Hens fall to 2-4.

McLeary (5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 SO) faced just one batter over the minimum en route to his first win of the year. Indians RHP Jesse Chavez (2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 SO) and RHP Dan Kolb (1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 SO) helped slam the door with Kolb notching his first save of 2007.

Davis put Indianapolis on the scoreboard in the second inning with a two-run single to left. The base knock came after Matos walked and SS Brian Bixler drilled a single to center.

Matos highlighted the fifth with a two-run double to right. The hit scored C Ryan Doumit and 1B Yurendell de Caster after Doumit, de Caster and DH Michael Ryan all drew bases on balls. Ryan's free pass plated 3B Russ Johnson, who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the frame.

Toledo scored its only run in the seventh when 3B Mike Hessman blasted a 442-foot shot to left center after the Tribe committed its first error of the season.

Mud Hens RHP Zach Miner (4.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 BB, 1 SO) was pinned with the loss in his first decision of 2007. Toledo RHP Jeremy Johnson (1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 SO) and LHP Vic Darensbourg (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) combined for 3.1 scoreless frames after the damage had been done.

Davis and Bixler both turned in 2-for-4 efforts for the Indians. No individual from the visiting dugout had more than one base knock on the night.

Indianapolis wraps up its season-opening, six-game homestand on Wednesday when the two teams return to Victory Field for a 2 p.m. matinee. RHP Virgil Vasquez is scheduled to start for the Mud Hens, while LHP Sean Burnett is expected to get the nod for the Indians.

The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 1:40 p.m.
