Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Bisons host the Ottawa Lynx in the second game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (1:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking to build off a season-opening 8-3 victory on Monday over the Lynx. For Buffalo, LHP Rafael Perez will make his first start of the season. Perez made his Triple-A debut with the Herd last year and was 0-3 with a solid 2.63ERA in 13 games. Ottawa will counter with LHP J.A. Happ, who will also be making his first appearance of 2007.
VS. OTTAWA: The Bisons currently hold an 88-56 advantage in the all-time series against the Ottawa Lynx. The Herd has won 10 games against the Lynx in eight of the nine seasons since rejoining the International League in 1998 (2003, 7-9). Last season, Buffalo won 10 of their 15 games against Ottawa, including six of the 10 played at Dunn Tire Park.
ROSTER MOVE: Catcher Yamid Haad has been activated to the Bisons roster, a day after signing a minor league contract with the Indians. Haad hit a combined .182 (31-170) at three levels of San Francisco's system in 2006. He was a Pacific Coast League All-Star with Fresno in 2005 (.282, 10HR, 34RBI) before playing 17 games with the Giants at the end of the year (2-28, 1RBI).
STARTER NOW: Rafael Perez will be making his first start with the Bisons today. The southpaw was used only in relief at Buffalo and at Cleveland last season. However, 82 of his 122 career appearances have been as a starter, including 12 starts to begin the 2006 season with Double-A Akron. With the Aeros, he was 4-5 with a 2.81ERA in those 12 starts.
OUT OF THE WAY: Eight Bisons hitters got that first hit of the season out of the way yesterday. Buffalo had 14 total hits on the afternoon, led by Keith Ginter's three singles. Ben Francisco, Luis Rivas, Hector Luna and Brad Snyder all had two hits for the game. Seven different Bisons also drove in their first run of the year.
FAST START: The Bisons were a perfect 4-4 in stealing bases yesterday. Brad Snyder, Shin-Soo Choo, Hector Luna and Keith Ginter were all successful swiping second base. The Bisons haven't stole four bases in a game since July 31, 2005 against Indianapolis. Last year's team stole three bases on four different occasions.
BULLY FOR THE PEN: The Bisons bullpen got off to a great start with three hitless innings yesterday. Juan Lara, Mike Koplove and Brian Sikorski all threw a scoreless inning to preserve the win. The trio struck out three and walked none.
