McGarry Fans Six in Two Innings; Late Balks Sink Claws on Wednesday

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Asheville scored twice in the ninth, including the winning run on the second of two ninth inning balks, and beat the BlueClaws 3-2 on Wednesday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

The Tourists (2-9) and BlueClaws (2-9) have split the first two games of their six game series.

Cristian Gonzlez led off the ninth with a double and scored on JC Correa's base hit off Carlos Francisco (0-1). Correa then moved up to second on the throw home, went to third and scored on balks by Francisco. The BlueClaws got the tying run on base in the ninth but Baron Radcliff grounded out to second base to end the game. Palmer Wenzel got Radcliff to earn the save for Chayce McDermott (1-0), who allowed two unearned runs in 2.2 innings of relief.

The BlueClaws took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning when two scored on a throwing error from shortstop Cristian Gonzalez with two outs. Jared Carr, who tripled with one out for the BlueClaws first hit, and Karl Ellison, who walked, scored the unearned runs.

Tourists starter Adrian Chaidez, making his first professional start, retired all 18 batters he faced, striking out nine.

Asheville took the lead in the sixth inning on a two out RBI single by Jordan Brewer. He brought home JC Correa, who had reached on an error. The unearned run was charged to Ethan Lindow.

BlueClaws starter Griff McGarry struck out all six batters that he faced. This year, McGarry has retired all nine hitters to face him and he's struck out eight.

The teams continue their series on Thursday night at 6:35 pm.
