McCully Named Southern League Pitcher of the Week

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons and the Southern League have announced the RHP Nick McCully has been named Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 20-26.

McCully, 24, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one start last week, allowing one hit and striking out seven in 6.0 scoreless innings against the Jacksonville Suns. McCully began the season in the Barons bullpen but moved into the starting rotation on May 9th. In five starts McCully is 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA (3 ER/ 23.0 IP) and accumulated a streak of 18 consecutive scoreless innings from May 9th - June 2nd. On the season, McCully is 5-1 with a 2.84 ERA (12 ER/38.0 IP) in 12 appearances.

McCully was originally drafted by the Cardinals organization in the ninth round of the June 2009 First-Year Player Draft. He was acquired by the White Sox organization on March 26, 2011. In 16 appearances (seven starts) with the Barons in 2012, McCully went 2-4 with a 4.75 ERA (29 ER/55.0 IP). Entering the 2013 season, McCully had a career record of 16-11 with a 4.14 ERA (108 ER/235.0 IP) in 94 appearances (21 starts).
