Chattanooga, TN - In his third minor league rehab start, Brandon Beachy kept the Chattanooga Lookouts at bay and the Mississippi Braves slugged a pair of home runs to win 5-3 on Monday night at AT&T Field.

Beachy (1-0) picked up the win, throwing five innings and allowing three runs on six hits. But the Braves bats came through.

In the second inning, Mississippi (31-25) loaded the bases against Lookouts starter Onelky Garcia, and Luis Nunez pounded a ball off the scoreboard in left for a grand slam. It was Nunez's first home run of the season, and it came against his former team, having played for Chattanooga in 2012.

The Lookouts (26-31) came back in the bottom of the second with two off Beachy. Ozzie Martinez doubled to lead off the inning, and Joc Pederson singled to put men on the corners. After Pederson stole second, back to back groundouts by Angelo Songco and Griff Erickson scored both, making it 4-2 Braves.

Beachy settled in after the second and didn't allow another hit until the fifth. With one out in the inning, Lookouts relief pitcher Kyle Cofield hit a 2-1 fastball to out to left-center for a home run, pulling the score to 4-3 Braves.

Cofield and Beachy were teammates and roommates on the 2010 Mississippi Braves until Beachy was called up to Atlanta in September.

But the M-Braves weren't finished. In the top of the sixth, Barrett Kleinknecht slugged a solo home run off reliever Chris Reed. It was his third home run of the year and put Mississippi up 5-3.

Garcia (0-3) left after just two innings for Chattanooga, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and taking the loss. Ian Thomas came on to slam the door in the ninth, picking up his first save for Mississippi.

With Jacksonville's 5-2 loss to Mobile, the Braves now have a two-game lead in the Southern League South with 13 games left to play in the first half.

The M-Braves will try for their fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday night at 6:15 PM CT in game three with Chattanooga. Right-hander Michael Lee (3-3, 3.86) gets the call for the Braves against Lookouts' right-hander Andres Santiago (2-5, 5.71).
