Mayhem Game Notes: Mayhem at Birmingham Bulls
April 6, 2018 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Mayhem News Release
LAST GAME PLAYED:
The Mayhem were victorious last night, defeated the Pensacola Ice Flyers 4-2 to move into second place in the SPHL standings with two games to play. After winning six straight games to stay in the playoff race, the Bulls have now lost five straight.
They fell 3-0 to the Pensacola Ice Flyers in their last game on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE BULLS:
The Bulls have officially been eliminated from playoff contention in their inaugural season after this past weekend.
After finding themselves fighting for the eighth seed in the SPHL playoffs, Birmingham has now dropped five games in a row. They have scored just 2.80 goals per game and allowed 5.20 goals per game over their five-game losing streak. Charlie Millen has taken over as the team's starting goaltender with Mavric Parks on loan to the ECHL, and despite having a 14-10-1 record, he has posted a 3.58 goals against average in 26 games this season. Jacob Barber leads the SPHL in rookie scoring, as he has 24 goals 28 assists and 52 points in 50 games.
THE CHAMPS ARE HERE:
After battling through an up-and-down year for most of the regular season, the defending champion Mayhem are hitting their stride at the right moment. With just two games left in the regular season, the Mayhem are on a four-game win streak and a seven-game point streak. Their only loss of any variety in the last six games came on March 23rd, when they fell to the first-place Peoria Rivermen 2-1 in overtime. The seven-game point streak ties a season- long for the Mayhem.
RACE FOR THE SCORING CROWN:
After recording an assist last night, Jake Trask finds himself two points behind Knoxville's Berkley Scott for the SPHL's scoring title. Scott enters the weekend with 68 points in 54 and has two games left on the schedule against Pensacola on Friday and Saturday. Trask trails him with 66 points in just 51 games, and he also has two games remaining on his season.
FINDING THE GROOVE:
Charlie Finn has been a huge part of the good form from the Mayhem lately, as he has been playing great down the stretch. Over his last six games, he is 4-1-1 with a 1.98 goals against average (GAA) and .914 save percentage (SV%). In his last three games, he is 2-0-1 with a 1.63 GAA and .938 SV%.
BACK IN ACTION:
The Mayhem complete the regular season at home on Saturday night against the Evansville Thunderbolts. They will then move onto the SPHL's Challenge Round next week, but the dates and opponent are yet to be determined.
