
Ice Flyers Bounce Back with 2-1 Win

PENSACOLA, FL. - Pensacola's last stop on their final regular season road trip was at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum to face the Knoxville Ice Bears in the first of back-to-back games. The Ice Flyers were coming off of a loss last night against the Macon Mayhem, but bounced back to get the 2-1 win. Ice Flyers' Alex Sakeraoppolous was in the net for the first time since returning on loan from ECHL. He had 27 saves on 28 shots. Troy Davenport defended the Ice Bears net with 18 saves on 20 shots.
Both teams came out swinging in the first with two fighting penalties between the two. 11 penalties were recorded in the period. Knoxville outshot Pensacola in the first period 11-6, but neither team was able to score.
Pensacola started out strong, but Knoxville led in shots 16-9. Knoxville's Evan Neugold put the Ice Bears on the board first at 12:38 with an assisted goal by Michael Chen. Garrett Milan of Pensacola rebounded with an unassisted shot of his own at 17:43 to tie the score heading into the third.
10 minutes went by and the score was still tied. Ice Bears David Brancik received a tripping penalty giving the Ice Flyers the power play. Nathan Bruyere took advantage of the power play netting a goal at 10:34. Assists came from Charlie Adams and Garrett Milan.
Notes:
Pensacola will face Knoxville for the second time this weekend Saturday night at 6:35PM CST. It will be the last game of the regular season for both teams.
The SPHL Challenge Round Show will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 8 at Buffalo Wild Wings. During this show, the top four teams in the league will select who they want to face off against in the first round of the 2018 SPHL Playoffs. The full team will be in attendance, and the show will be broadcast on Facebook Live. There will be multiple raffles and fun games going on during the show for the fans in attendance.
Pensacola's first challenge round game will be on Wednesday, April 11 or Thursday, April 12 at 7:05PM. Game 2 of the Challenge Round will occur on Friday, April 13 or Saturday, April 14 in the TBD opponent's venue. Game 3 if necessary will take place in Pelham, Alabama at the Pelham Civic Complex at 5pm on Sunday, April 15.
