LAST TIME OUT: The Rail Yard Dawgs struck first and took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission but the Peoria Rivermen stormed back to eventually beat the Dawgs, 5-2, Saturday night at Berglund Center. Maxime Guyon and Matt Beer each scored power play goals in the Roanoke loss.

IN ANOTHER WORLD: In any previous SPHL season, this weekend's games between the Rail Yard Dawgs and Rivermen would have been the final determination of playoff seeding and a potential preview of the first seed/eighth seed first round matchup. This season, however, is the first season of the SPHL's new Challenge Round postseason format, wherein the top seeds choose which of the bottom four seeds they would like to play in the opening round of the postseason. Peoria has clinched the William B. Coffey trophy as the regular season points champion and will have first choice of opponent for the Challenge Round.

HEAVILY PENALIZED: The Rail Yard Dawgs and Rivermen combined for 87 penalty minutes during Saturday's 5-2 Roanoke loss with Peoria totaling 50 minutes on 11 infractions, the most penalty minutes by a Dawgs opponent this season. The third period saw seven fighting majors, a ten-minute misconduct and two game misconducts dished out. Peoria's Cody Dion came away with the worst of the punishments as he took a fighting major and a game misconduct, for which he was suspended one game by the league.

FRESH BLOOD: The Rail Yard Dawgs signed two new faces to their roster this week in defenseman Patrick Harrison and forward Grant Garvin. Harrison joins his fourth SPHL team this season; he has combined for a goal and four assists over 30 games with Birmingham, Pensacola and Evansville. Garvin was signed to an amateur tryout on Wednesday and recently completed his senior season at Liberty University. During his final season with the Flames he led ACHA DI hockey in points (74) and assists (49) in 36 games.

ODD SCHEDULING: Friday's game is the third of four-straight Peoria and Roanoke will play against one another to finish the regular season.

FRIENDS NO MORE: Roanoke head coach Dan Bremner played the final three seasons of his pro career for Peoria and served as the Rivermen captain for the last two. He was teammates with six current Rivermen skaters and played all three seasons under Peoria head coach Jean-Guy Trudel.

POSTSEASON VENUE: The Rail Yard Dawgs announced on Tuesday that due to a previously scheduled event at Berglund Center, their Challenge Round home game will take place in Lynchburg at Liberty University's LaHaye Ice Center. The date, time and opponent will be determined following the SPHL Challenge Round Selection Show on Sunday night.

UP NEXT: The Dawgs and Rivermen finish out the regular season on Saturday night. Puck drop at Carver Arena is scheduled for 7:15 PM CDT.
