Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - It took overtime, but the RiverKings edged out Huntsville 6-5 for the victory and their second straight win over the Havoc.

The RiverKings got going early, getting a goal only one minute and seven seconds into the game. Devin Mantha found a cutting Daniel Tedesco who buried a shot over starting goaltender Mike DeLaVergne to give the RiverKings a 1-0 lead. Mississippi wasn't done there in the first period when around the halfway mark of the first a pinching Kristaps Bazevics sniped the top corner over DeLaVergne and increased the RiverKings lead to 2-0. The two teams would ride that 2-0 score to the locker room where Havoc Head Coach Glenn Detulleo made a goalie swap and started Asmundson in the second period. Once again the RiverKings scored in the opening minute of a period, this time it was defenseman Ralfs Grinbergs who netted his third goal of the season, and the RiverKings were in command 3-0. That's when the tide turned against the home team. Huntsville came roaring back in the second period to score four unanswered. Sy Nutkevitch netted two goals, while Christian powers and Dylan Hood added tallies of their own and after 40 minutes of play, Mississippi headed to the intermission this time trailing, 4-3.

Out of the gate in the third the RiverKings pushed forward when an opportunistic Devin Mantha added a goal to his two assists, burying a wrap-around and tying the game at four goals apiece only 4:40 into the third. Both teams battled throughout the third, but it wasn't until after the final-minute announcement that the tie was broken. Dan Tedesco with his second goal of the night gave the RiverKings the lead, 5-4, with only 49 seconds left to go in regulation. Just when the RiverKings thought the game was wrapped up, Huntsville clawed back with the extra attacker. Christian Powers score his second goal of the night with only 12 seconds remaining in regulation to re-tie the game at 5-5 and force an overtime period.

Coming into the game, the RiverKings owned a 3-0 record of games ending in the overtime period, and they increased that record to a clean 4-0 when Bazevics slammed home a back-door shot through the legs of Asmundson and earning the RiverKings victory with only 1:15 left to go on the clock.

The RiverKings remain at home for the final game of the regular season on Saturday night with the Fayetteville Marksmen incoming to Planters Bank Ice at Landers Center. The team is celebrating Fan Appreciation Night, and it's the final Chick-fil-A Friends and Family Four Pack night of the season.
