West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN - Cameron Maybin, who has not played in a game for the Whitecaps since May 7 will be eligible to return to the lineup on Friday. Maybin was the first round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers last June and was chosen 10th overall.
He is batting .330 in 27 games played for West Michigan this season with 1 home run, 7 doubles, 4 triples and 19 RBI.
The centerfielder was sidelined on May when he was a late scratch in the line up due to a finger injury. Maybin was a late scratch from the line up three different times before he was placed on the disabled list May 18. He will be available to play for the Whitecaps on Friday in Fort Wayne as West Michigan closes a four game series against the Wizards.
To make room for Maybin on the roster, second baseman Max Leon has been assigned to extended spring training in Lakeland, Florida. Leon will likely be on the Oneonta Tigers roster when the New York-Penn League season opens on June 20.
In six games for the Whitecaps, Leon went 2-for-12 (.167) with 2 doubles and an RBI. He joined the Whitecaps from extended spring training on May 29.
