Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Kane County Cougar starting pitcher Trey Shields won his fourth consecutive start with a 5-1 decision over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday night. The Cougars scored three unearned runs on four Timber Rattler errors and Shields ran his record to 6-5 on the season by scattering seven Wisconsin hits.

Rattler nemesis Jeff Baisley drove in Wes Long in the top of the first on a two-out ground rule double for an early 1-0 lead. Baisley has thirteen RBI against the Rattlers this season.

Kane County (37-23) took advantage of wildness by Rattler starting pitcher Paul Fagan in the top of the second. Fagan walked the first two batters of the frame. Then, Isaac Omura dropped a sacrifice bunt. Fagan fielded the ball and threw to first. However, Rattler second baseman Luis Valbuena lost the ball in the sun as he was covering first base. Two runs scored as the Rattlers retrieved the ball down the right field line. Later in the inning, Omura scored from third after Mike Massaro grounded into a double play.

Wisconsin (25-35) got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI infield single by Robby Hudson.

The pitching took over from that point. Shields worked seven innings and gave up one run with one walk and six strikeouts. Fagan settled down after the shaky start and also went seven innings with four walks and one strikeout.

Kane County got one more run on a Rattler error in the top of the ninth.

The Rattlers and Cougars wrap up their series on Friday night. Harold Williams (1-2, 3.40ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Jared Lansford (4-3, 2.72ERA) is scheduled to start for the Cougars. Game time is 7:05pm.
