MIDLAND, MI - Bryce Baase, a three-sport Salutatorian from Carrollton High School, and Jennifer Lentz, a three-sport senior from Standish-Sterling Central have been selected as ESPN 100.9-FM's May Scholar Athletes of the Month, presented by Hammer Restoration. The two student-athletes were honored May 31 during ESPN 100.9-FM's SportsNight.
Baase, a senior with a 3.9 GPA and a member of the National Honor Society, was honored as the Class of 2012 Salutatorian at Carrollton High School this year for his academic achievements. With an impressive 142 career wins as a wrestler, Bryce also played football and baseball during his high school career. In 2010 Bryce was selected H.M. All Conference while playing as a defensive back, and was chosen in 2011 1st Team All-Conference as a kicker.
Lentz, a National Honor society member also with a 3.9 GPA, has received numerous Academic Excellence Awards at Standish-Sterling Central, including Student of the Month. According to her coach and nominator, Gary Hagenbuch, she is a model citizen and a great role model. Lentz is captain of the cross country team and competes for her school's track and swim teams as well. She holds the Panther Perfect Attendance Award. Lentz was a time State qualifier in 2009, 2010 and 2011 for the 4x400 relay in Track, as well as a medalist in 2010 and 2011 for the 300 meters hurdles. She was also elected 1st NEMC All-Conference in Cross Country in 2010.

Each month during the prep sports season, one male and one female student-athlete is chosen for the ESPN 100.9-FM Scholar Athlete of the Month Award, presented by Hammer Restoration. Winning candidates show excellence in academics, athletics and leadership. Nominations are currently being accepted for future months at ESPN1009.com. Student-athletes must be nominated by a coach, teacher or school administrator.
ESPN 100.9-FM (WLUN, Pinconning) is a 24-hour all-sports station owned by the non-profit Michigan Radio Communications. The station is the flagship radio home of Great Lakes Loons baseball and carries the weekday lineup of Mike and Mike in the Morning, the Herd with Colin Cowherd, Scott Van Pelt Show, and The Huge Show with Bill Simonson. ESPN 100.9-FM also carries the Saginaw Valley League High School Football and Basketball Game of the Week, Michigan State athletics, Saginaw Valley State athletics and the NFL Sunday Doubleheader.
