Dayton Dragons News Release
Bowling Green, Ky.-Kyle Waldrop delivered three hits and Juan Silva drove in three runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 6-2 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Monday night. The win gave the Dragons their second straight series victory as they handed the Hot Rods their first home series loss of the year. Dayton won two of three in the set.
Dragons starting pitcher Radhames Quezada tossed five and one-third innings, allowing four hits and one run with two walks and four strikeouts to earn his second straight victory. The only run against Quezada came on a solo home run.
The Dragons got out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Silva doubled down the right field line with two outs to drive in Waldrop and Yovan Gonzalez. In the fourth, they added two more runs as Ryan Wright tripled off the fence in left-center field and scored on Waldrop's single to center. Waldrop eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.
Bowling Green's Ryan Brett hit a solo home run to left field in the fourth to make it 4-1. But Quezada and relievers El'Hajj Muhammad and Lucas O'Rear shut down the Hot Rods until the ninth.
The Dragons add two runs in the eighth inning when Steve Selsky walked, went to third on Wright's single to center, and scored on Waldrop's hit to right to make it 5-1. Wright scored on Silva's single to center to put Dayton in front 6-1. The Hot Rods scored a single run in the bottom of the ninth to close out the scoring.
The Dragons finished with nine hits. Waldrop was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two driven in. Silva was 2 for 4 with three RBI. Wright, in his first game back in the lineup after missing five games with a sprained left wrist, was 2 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored.
The Dragons do not play on Tuesday. They open a three-game series at Fifth Third Field in Dayton on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against the Lake County Captains (WONE 980 AM). Tanner Robles (3-3, 4.60) will start for Dayton against Lake County's Cody Anderson (4-2, 2.52). The series continues Thursday and Friday before Bowling Green visits Dayton for a three-game set starting Saturday.
Notes: Wright was selected on Monday to play in the Midwest League All-Star Game on June 19 at Kane County...After winning two-of-three at home against South Bend prior to the Bowling Green series, the Dragons have won back-to-back sets for the first time since they won three straight three-game sets April 16-24...Bowling Green had won seven series and split one at home this season before losing two-of-three for the Dragons.
