SOUTH BEND, INDIANA - The South Bend Silver Hawks (29-29) mustered just two hits Monday and fell 1-0 to the Lansing Lugnuts in front of 4,873 fans at Coveleski Stadium, the largest home crowd of 2012. The Silver Hawks were shut out for the first time since a 3-0 loss to the Lugnuts on April 17 at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Lansing's Kevin Pillar hit an RBI double in the fourth inning for the only run of the game. The Lugnuts had other opportunities but stranded nine runners on base.

Archie Bradley (6-3) lost his second straight game for South Bend, allowing one earned run on two hits over 4.1 innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked four. Marcus Walden (4-1) tossed five scoreless innings of one-hit ball and got the win for the Lugnuts.

Right-hander Javier Avendano worked the final two innings and earned his second save for Lansing.

Gerson Montilla's two-out, first-inning double and Matt Helm's leadoff base hit in the seventh inning were the Silver Hawks only hits of the game. The Silver Hawks did not advance a runner as far as third base all afternoon.

The Lugnuts threatened to lengthen their lead in the eighth inning. With runners on second and third and just one out, Seth Simmons struck out Shane Opitz. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, Simmons fanned Kenny Wilson. The Lugnuts also stranded the bases loaded in the eighth inning.

Simmons worked 2.1 scoreless innings and has now gone his last 15.1 innings without allowing a run. D.J. Johnson did not allow a run in 1.1 innings.

Right-hander Brandon Berl replaced Walden and twirled two scoreless innings. Pillar paced the Lugnuts with two hits.

The Silver Hawks pitching staff issued eight walks Monday and 17 in the final two games of the series.

The Silver Hawks are off Tuesday before beginning a three-game series Wednesday with the Great Lakes Loons.
