Kansas City Mavericks News Release

WICHITA, Kansas- The Missouri Mavericks beat the Wichita 6-2 Saturday night at Kansas Coliseum. Jeff Christian had a pair of goals and four other Mavericks scored in the team's seventh win in seven games over the Thunder. Mavericks' goaltender Alexandre Vincent stopped 20 of 22 shots for his third win of the season. Missouri heads to Mississippi Tuesday night and attempts to win three games in a row for the first time this season.

Missouri jumped out to a 2-0 lead late in the first period. Jared Lavender scored his first goal of the season at the 16:05 mark, and 19 seconds later, Christian had the first of his two goals on a wrap around attempt. After the Christian goal, Thunder goaltender Jon Horrell was pulled in favor of Scott Campbell. Missouri took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission after outshooting the Thunder 11-5.

The Thunder made things interesting in the second period. Brandon Kaleniecki scored on an odd-man rush at the 4:36 mark to cut the Mavericks' lead to 2-1. Only 1:09 later, Missouri regained their two-goal lead when Karl Sellan lifted a wrist shot over the shoulder of Campbell. Again, the Thunder came back on Chris McAllister's shot from the left point that went through Vincent's legs and cut the lead to 3-2. Missouri held a 21-11 edge in shots and a 3-2 lead after two periods.

It was all Mavericks in the third period. Missouri killed a five-minute penalty to Christian and Simon Watson capitalized shortly after. Watson's goal came at the 4:36 mark of the third, but the Mavericks weren't finished. Christian scored his second of the game at 15:04 and Derek Pallardy had an unassisted shorthanded breakaway in the final minute to finalize the scoring at 6-2.

Missouri killed all five of Wichita's power plays, but was unable to score on two man-advantages. The Mavericks outshot the Thunder 34-22.

The Mavericks will attempt to win three straight games for the first time this season when they head to Mississippi Tuesday, December 29. Missouri has won consecutive games five times this season, but has failed to win three straight.

Missouri's next home game is New Year's Eve, Thursday, December 31 against the Colorado Eagles at 7:05 p.m. New Year's Eve Party Packs are available and include four terrace tickets, four Pepsis and four hotdogs for just $60 (normally $100).
