Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Just short of the "British Invasion" of the Beatles and the walk on the moon, the Texas Brahmas and Allen Americans rekindled their long-storied rivalry of the Fort Worth Wings and Dallas Black Hawks dating back several decades ago, Saturday night in Allen in game one of the North Texas Vintage Game Series. The Brahmas, donning Wings jerseys earned one point in the standings with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Americans.
The Americans took to their new Black Hawks sweaters nicely taking an early lead in the first when Justin Bowers beat Joe Palmer between the pipes at the :34 second mark. It wouldn't be until the second for the Brahmas to return the favor with an "old school hockey" goal of their own as the powerplay took care of a two-man advantage two minutes into the period. It was Jason Deitsch, back from his stint on IR, who released a shot from the point finding the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
The revived series seemed to have revived the Brahmas struggling powerplay when Grant Jacobsen, charging on in toward the crease of Charlie Effinger with the puck, netted Texas' second of the game with the assists from Deitsch and Ross Rouleau.
A goal by Allen blueliner Sean Perkins in the third evened the game at two setting the table for the extra period. With :49 seconds remaining in overtime Palmer was beat by Ryan Fairbarn.
The second and final game of the North Texas Vintage Game Series will take place January 8 at the NYTEX Sports Centre at 7:05 PM. Immediately following the game, the Brahmas will host a live auction of the game worn Fort Worth Wings sweaters.
Texas returns home tomorrow afternoon with a tilt against the Wichita Thunder at 4:05 PM at the NTYEX Sports Centre. Prior to faceoff, the Brahmas will honor Star-Telegram reporter, Jim Reeves for his 40 years of service and dedication to sports in Tarrant County. Reeves retired from the paper last month. All fans in attendance are invited to take place in the free post game skate. For ticket information or more Brahmas news please call (817) 336-4423 or www.brahmas.com.
