Bucks Scrooged In OT By Corpus

Laredo Bucks News Release


LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 5-4 in overtime Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks winless streak is now three games (0-1-2) as they fall to 13-7-6 (32 points). Laredo remains tied with Texas for third place in the Southern Conference.

Kyle Peto scored 1:29 into overtime to give the Ice Rays their first victory in Laredo this season.

The Bucks (7-2-4 at home) outshot the Ice Rays 44-32 with Kevin Nastiuk stopping 40 shots in net for Corpus.

The Ice Rays (10-14-4) jumped out of the gates quick as they scored twice in the first 4:51 to take a 2-0 lead. Matt Smyth (2:54) and Chad Woolard (4:51) gave the Ice Rays a 2-0 advantage.

The Bucks however would score two goals in 31 seconds late in the first to tie the game at 2-2.

Neil Trimm would score on a snap shot from the left side hash marks to make it 2-1 Corpus with 2:52 left in the first. The goal was Trimm's third of the season.

35 seconds later Curtis Billsten tied the game when he hammered in a snap shot from the bottom of the left circle to pick up his second of the year.

The Bucks were outshot in the first period 13-9.

Laredo would take a 3-2 lead just 50 seconds into the second period when Lance Monych scored a shorthanded goal off of a slap shot from the top of the left circle. The strike was Monych's 10th of the season.

Corpus would come right back and tie the game at 3-3 just 1:08 later when Jereme Tendler scored a power-play goal from the ride side of the crease. The goal snapped an 0-for-46 power-play drought for the Ice Rays dating back to December 3rd.

The Bucks would re-take the the lead 3:08 into the second when Eric Giosa scored on a rebound in front of the Corpus net to make it 4-3. The goal was Giosa's sixth of the campaign. Jeff Bes picked up an assist on Giosa's goal to move into a tie for 13th place all-time in CHL history with 350 assists.

Corpus would tie the game at 4-4 with 3:28 left in the second when Chris Richards picked up the loose puck at center ice and skated by the Bucks defense to score a breakaway goal. The goal was Richards' seventh of the year.

Kyle Gajewski was pulled after that goal and replaced with Kris Tebbs who was signed earlier in the day by the Bucks. Gajewski stopped 18 of 22 shots while Tebbs set aside nine of 10 in his Bucks debut.

The bucks outshot the Ice Rays 14-9 in the second period.

Neither team could score in the third period to send the game to overtime with the Bucks outshooting the Ice Rays 20-8 in the period.

The Bucks played with only 14 skaters Saturday night, as Maxime Lincourt was scratched with a minor injury, while Cody Hamilton was given a leave of absence for the game.
