ALLEN, Texas - The Kansas City Mavericks (8-1-1-0) completed a three-game week-long sweep of the Allen Americans (3-9-0-1) with a 5-3 win Saturday night in Allen.

The victory extended the Mavericks' win streak to six games. Netminder Ben Halford turned away 31 of 34 shots in his ECHL debut for Kansas City while eight Mavericks recorded points in the decisive win.

The Mavericks snapped out of a streak of slow starts, entering the first intermission with a 2-0 edge after goals from Darian Dziurzynski and Jordan Klimek in the opening 20 minutes. Dziurzynski's strike was his second goal in as many games in the Lone Star state while Klimek's lamp-lighter, which came late in the first, was his second professional marker.

The goals were part of a dominant first-period effort that saw the Mavericks run up a 20-4 advantage in shots on goal while netting two power play goals.

Action was slower in the second but resulted in another goal for the visitors, Matt Robertson's fourth of the campaign on a tap-in off a nice feed from Mark Cooper to seize a 3-0 edge and complete control of the contests.

The Mavs struck first in the third, Mark Cooper extending the lead to 4-0, but a late push until an empty netter from Cooper allowed the Americans to pull back within two before the final horn and produce a 5-3 final score.

The Mavericks return home on Tuesday for the annual Kids Day Game, a 10:35 a.m. puck drop against the Wichita Thunder.
