Morning Skate

Double Trouble: The Dziurzynski brothers led the way in last night's win, totaling four points with three goals between the pair. The elder brother, David, claimed the game-winning goal as well as an empty-netter, while Darian's two-point effort brought his ECHL career total to 100 points.

Slow Starts: The Mavericks have made a habit of slow starts lately, and that did not change last night as the Americans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first seven-and-a-half minutes of the game. The Mavs did not blink, though, and rattled off five unanswered goals. Kansas City has conceded the first goal in four of their five games during the current win streak and has not led at the first intermission since Oct. 27's 7-2 win over Indy.

Power Play Prowess: The Mavericks tuned up the Americans on the power play last night, lighting the lamp twice in the contest, to bring the year total to 5-for-14 against Allen on the man-advantage. It was the power play that got the comeback effort started, Darian Dziurzynski beating C.J. Motte with 40 seconds left in the opening frame to pull that Mavericks back within one before heading to the locker room.

Eick's Strikes: C.J. Eick continued his scoring streak last night, pushing his run of racking up points to four games with an assist. The forward has two goals and two assists in that span, including a shorthanded score against Allen on Tuesday.

Player To Watch: Mason McDonald has been nothing if not steady this season, coming into today's game with a 5-0 record, 2.18 Goals Against Average and .918 Save Percentage. The 2014 Flames draft pick is currently eighth in the ECHL in GAA and is the league's only undefeated with more than two starts on the season. Against Allen he has been stellar, stopping 59 of 63 shots faced (.937 SVP) in a pair of wins.

The Mavericks return home on Tuesday for the annual Kids Day Game, a 10:35 a.m. puck drop against the Wichita Thunder.
