Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks scored two goals on their first two shots and didn't look back in a 4-0 shutout of the Wichita Thunder Friday night at Independence Events Center. Mavericks' goaltender Alexandre Vincent stopped all 21 shots faced in his second win with Missouri and the team improved to 7-9-1 overall. Carlyle Lewis (1-1=2) and Brett Hammond (0-2=2) led all scorers with two points apiece as the Mavericks improved to 6-0-0 against the Thunder this season.

Missouri scored goals on their first two shots of the game and didn't look back. First, the Mavericks skated into the Wichita zone on a two-on-one and Carlyle Lewis fed Kyle Bochek who buried his first professional goal at the 2:29 mark. Less than a minute later, Mike Burgoyne scored his fourth goal in as many games with Missouri when he wristed a shot over the shoulder of Wichita goaltender Scott Campbell.

Campbell was pulled in favor of Jon Horrell after allowing the two goals, but Missouri continued to pressure. Bill Vandermeer made it a 3-0 game at the 16:26 mark of the first for his sixth goal of the season. Missouri outshot the Thunder 11-7 in the first and nine different players had a point after one period.

The Mavericks didn't allow more than the eight shots allowed in the second period, but Vincent was equal to the task stopping all eight shots. Missouri finished with 13 shots in the second, but the score remained 3-0 heading into the third.

In the third period, Carlyle Lewis finalized the scoring when he tipped a Brett Hammond shot behind Horrell to make it 4-0. Missouri finished 1-4 on the power play and killed all six Wichita power plays. The Mavericks outshot the Thunder 34-21.

Missouri will host the Amarillo Gorillas tomorrow night at Independence Events Center at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale by calling 866-443-8849 or visit MissouriMavericks.com for more information.
