Bucks Lose Shootout Heartbreaker To Odessa

ODESSA, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Odessa Jackalopes 2-1 in a shootout Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum. The Bucks pick up a point in the loss as they fall to 10-4-4 (24 points).

Brian Swiniarski scored twice, including the game-winning goal in the seventh round of the shootout.

Swiniarski tied the game at 1-1 with just 32 seconds left in the third period as he slammed in a slap shot from the point with Odessa having an extra attacker.

J.P Levasseur stopped 36 of 37 shots in taking the tough luck loss, while Joel Martin set aside 30 of 31 for the Jackalopes.

Going back to last seasons playoffs the Bucks and Jackalopes have played six straight one-goal games, with Laredo posting a 0-4-2 record (0-0-2 this season).

The Bucks jumped out in front just 3:57 into the first period when Eric Giosa tipped in a slap shot from Benjamin Deiude-Fauvel. The strike was Giosa's fourth of the campaign.

Levasseur held the 1-0 first period lead for the Bucks as he stopped two breakaway attempts by Odessa. Levasseur set aside breakaway attempts by Jeff Pierce and Dominic Leveille.

Laredo outshot Odessa in the first period 13-8.

Neither team was able to score in the second period to keep the Bucks lead at 1-0 after 40 minutes.

Levasseur made several tough saves in the second period, including stopping four shots on one Odessa possession.

Laredo was outshot 19-8 in the second period.

Neither team scored in overtime with the Bucks outshooting the Jackalopes 2-0 in the extra session.

The Bucks and Jackalopes will finish their home and home series Saturday night in Laredo.
