Three-Time AHL Champ Joins Thunder

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder signed former NHL left wing Jay Henderson on Friday afternoon.
Henderson has 306 points and 478 PIM in 618 career games, 33 of which were played in the NHL. Henderson also spent significant time in the AHL, most notably with the Providence Bruins. The Edmonton, Alberta native is one of only two players in AHL history to win the Calder Cup with three separate teams. Henderson won championships with Providence, Houston, and Milwaukee, and has scored 25 points with 183 PIM in 104 career playoff games.
The 31-year old Henderson scored 32 points while racking up 104 PIM in 50 games last season playing overseas for Innsbruck in Austria. A former 9th round draft pick by the Bruins in 1997, Henderson opened the 2009-10 season with the ECHL's Victoria Salmon Kings, appeaing in two contests.
To make room for Henderson, the Thunder released rookie left wing Mike Kneeland. Additionally, Wichita placed left wing Brandon Kaleniecki on the 14-Day IR, retroactive to his last game on November 27th. Right wing Kyle Bruce, who has not played since November 11th, has been activated from the 14-Day IR and is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Thunder takes on the Missouri Mavericks in Independence.
