Shots From The Point

December 4, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Showdown in the Hills of South Dakota

Arguably two of the top stories in the CHL this season will collide in Rapid City this weekend when the Rush (10-6-1) host the Tulsa Oilers (12-5-1) in a pair of games. Rapid City has won four straight games and are 7-3-0 at home this season creating a great home-ice advantage in just their second season. The Oilers have also done most of their damage at home going just 4-4-0 on the road but already this season have taken great strides under new head coach Bruce Ramsay in one of the biggest turnarounds in the CHL. Last year, the Oilers did not win their 12th game until February 3rd and finished with just 18 victories.

Northern Conference Finals Rematch

The defending Northern Conference Champion Colorado Eagles (12-3-1) visit Mississippi to face the RiverKings (9-9-2) tonight for the first time since the Eagles beat the 'Kings in Game Six of the conference finals last year. During the 08-09 regular season, the RiverKings won four of the five meetings including two of the three games at the DeSoto Civic Center. Colorado comes into tonight's game on a four-game win streak overall and a four-game win streak on the road (5-1 on the season away from home). Colorado Captain Riley Nelson has 12 points (4-8=12) in his last six games and is tied with Tulsa's Rob Hisey for the league lead with 32 points. Defenseman Jim Jackson has been on an unreal tear with seven points (1-6=7) in his last two games. The RiverKings are primed for a run earning points in four of their last five games going 2-1-2 over that stretch. Goaltender Ian Keserich has played well since joining the team going 2-0-1 with a 1.99 GAA and a.938 save percentage.

900 and Still Climbing

Bossier-Shreveport forward Travis Clayton had a night to remember on Tuesday in his team's 6-0 victory over Arizona where he posted a goal and four helpers and in the meantime became just the second CHL player to record 900 points in his CHL career. Clayton is already the all-time leader with 777 games played and his 901 points are 84 behind Joe Burton for the most in league history. Clayton has six goals and six assists on the season but is just now getting hot with four goals and five assists in his last six games.
